Why do we do what we do?
Most of the time, when you ask people what do they want… their answer will imply something related to money & wealth.
We spend 1/4 of our lives learning in schools and universities, take our first job that pays some of our needs. We are happy for a while. We move to a better job, that means a little more money or same money but less work… start dreaming about our dream job and spend our days in a miserable way and hope something will show up and we have all the things we wanted and become wealthy, take expensive vacations, buy fancy cars & so on.
This is the pattern we see since we open our eyes in this world, until we close our eyes in the restfull death.
But… why do I do what I do?
Rather than spending my life searching for the dream job with the money and respect I deserve, I would try to create it for myself.
I will follow my passion until I will make big steps ahead. I wont think about the money until it is the case to do that. I won’t think about the big dream, but rather divide my dream into small, more achievable dreams.
If I like games. I create games. As many as I can, as many as I want. If I like anything, I will do it ‘till one day I will decide with confidence what to do next.
There is no secret formula…. but it is easy for us to think so.
I don’t believe that one day, a guy woke up and said “ I have an idea that will bring me millions of millions and the life I want” . Things just happen. We adapt to contexts, we try and fail until we succeed. Some say it very sharp “It took 20 years for my overnight success”.
Maybe some did woke up and knew they will make it… but that is not the point. In reality, people try and try. Some people try more than others. Some people quit.
When people see someone who created, updated, placed, misplaced, modified, invented something… most of the times they think “ He had an idea, he put some guys at work… and there it is”… maybe sometimes this happens, but no-one knows the failures behind the success. No-one knows how many nights a game developer, a programmer, an engineer, a mathematician, a physicist… had lost until something was made. How many times someone wanted to quit, how many changes there were in a product until it became what it became.
People see things superficially. People think about others that they are “more intelligent” / “more advanced” than them. In reality, the difference is that some of us quit and some of us don’t.
Finding excuses is the easiest thing to do. You can blame your parents, you can blame your school, your cat, your whatever. It won’t help you.
The only thing that will help you is constant work, constant sharing of knowledge and rarely a partnership with the right people.
Rather than dreaming with your eyes opened, just start doing. In the first steps, there is no right or wrong. There is just the action. Find your inspiration. Work 5 minutes a day. Add five, add an hour, add two… add three. Make your life worth living… If you really want to follow your dreams.
Kill pathetic excuses. Make efforts. They will be payed off if they are made with a true heart.
Until then… I will…
