“Don’t be cool. Cool is conservative fear dressed in black. Free yourself from limits of this sort.”
― Bruce Mau’s An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth
No freedom for experimenting is no real experimentation. And it's not possible to face this process being cool all the time. That applies to following trends, adapting to an aesthetic style or editing yourself to a pasteurized version of whatever you're trying to do.
The process begs for you to go out of your comfort zone and do tacky things sometimes. Just for fun or for a new and real understanding about why something is considered that way. Which characteristics are interpreted in a certain perspective and how you can transform it into something else.
It can be frustrating, embarrassing or fell like a total waste of time. But that's process. That's commitment. Get your hands dirty. And one way or another you expand your senses toward a more creative and emotionally stronger life.
"When you’re experimenting you have to try so many things before you choose what you want, and you may go days getting nothing but exhaustion." — Fred Astaire
