A “We” Thing

Understanding The Importance of Other People

If you are a “you”

And I am a “me”

Then we are not the same,

You see?

Sometimes you say

“I” do this

Or

“I” have that

And sometimes

You point to me and say

“You” do this

Or

“You” have that

But the “Me” in you

And the “You” in me

Can both agree

That we are both “I”s

With ears and mouths

And eyes and noses

We are both “I”s,

But different

Different colored eyes,

Smiles, and memories

Which make us

Unique “I”s

Now how is it that

The “I” in you

And the “I” in me

Are living two separate “I”s?

“I”s that see and hear

And smell and talk

If we look in a mirror

We can easily see

That you are not me

And I am not you

We do not talk the same,

See the same,

Or think the same

However you are a “me”

And I am a “you”

That live and laugh

And cry and love

So then we

Are very much the same

We are then two

Of one kind

We are a “we”,

A “you” and “me”

Kind of thing

It is a special thing

This “we” that we now see

Because there is no “you”

Without me being a “me”

What a strange and beautiful

Place this can be,

Where a “you” and an “I”

Can both be a “me”

And still be a “we”.
