There are many things to consider for your personal branding. This article will you starting with the right thought process for picking your real estate personal brand.

What’s branding?

I want you to think of branding as more than marketing, at least while you figure out your persona. Branding it’s about your position in an industry and what you want people to think when they hear your name.

In a way, branding tells people what they can expect from your service. If you do it right, it’ll differentiate you well from your competitor realtors.

From a real estate standpoint, you are making a promise about the quality and type of work you provide for [certain] clients.

1. Identify your Target Client

Who are you selling to? What are their reasons for buying? Write a short description of this person, his or her lifestyle, interests, family type, are they single, married, divorced? What type of job does this person have and how is his income? Is this person likely to have a new vehicle or an older car? Is it a first time home buyer or a family of 5? Knowing your target client will help you anticipate their needs and market yourself in a way where your clients will be drawn to you.

2. Get Personal

People won’t chose you because you make sense and your pitch is logical they will chose you because you are approachable, friendly, helpful, and experienced. Logical reasons is what helps close the deal but does not help people approach you in the first place

As a realtor in El Paso, my job is to show families the opportunities that the new homes can give them. Opportunities like them hosting Thanksgiving dinners, having friends over for poker nights, and having large backyards for their kids birthday parties.

When showing homes in person or through video, people are drawn to how the house could work for them — it’s a place they can make into a home and build memories in. Share your personal experiences, be real and open and you will build a connection with your clients.

This means that I am trying to reach them through their heart first, their head second and their wallet last.

3. Be a Real Estate Expert

But most importantly, be an expert in a certain area. The worst thing you can do is try being an ‘expert of everything’ this includes an entire city. It makes your brand harder to believe unless you have unusual experience such as decades in the business or books or something else — in which case you probably wouldn’t just be looking for branding.

Anyway, picking an area of expertise is key to real estate branding. I know you’re reading this from another city, but here in El Paso, TX we have many different areas with different cultures and income levels — where you live it may be the same. Consider this when you are crafting your brand — do you want to show a really fancy watch or suit in your professional images? or would people prefer to see you as one of ‘them’? Amongst realtors, almost just like in any other sales profession amongst peers you may feel inclined to talk about money. I think is a millennial thing too, but when you are talking to prospect buyers the last thing you want to do is brag in any way. Specially if your buyers aren't’ wealthy and don’t perceive success as an intimidating factor.

Learn more, attend seminars, host seminars, build professional vertical relationships and get client testimonials! These are a huge help in leveraging expertise.

4. Create a Catchy Slogan

As an East Side El Paso Area Expert Realtor I am well known for being able to find a very specific type of home for each of my clients at almost any budget. Like a hunter, I’ll find any deal out there.

“Selling homes since 1987!” “Selling solutions, not promises.” “Dedicated to all your real estate needs!” “El Paso’s top west side real estate expert!”are all great examples of taglines to use for your real estate business. When offering real estate solutions to clients the key is to present a consistent theme throughout all of your branding and create a sense of completeness that communicates to prospects that you know what you are doing and will do it well for them too. Could you get video commentaries from clients? Create a slogan and stick to it — it will catch on if you use it in enough places. Remembering can be an interested thing — the human brain remembers information better when 2 things are associated. Compared to an agent with equal talent and opportunity, the one with the catchy slogan stands out.

5. Personal Logo

Don’t make it fancy or complex. Once you find a logo that fits you, use it everywhere. If you thought of a catchy slogan, pairing it with a good eye-catching logo will make it that much more powerful. We’re all visual by nature.

If I had to pick between a slogan and a logo, I’d go with the logo. “The human brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text and 90 percent of the information transmitted to the brain is visual.” Words and a picture? Dynamite. Let people see you. Research shows that customers are drawn to a product when it features an actual person in the ad. Clients want someone they can relate to.

Takeaway

When you are thinking about your personal brand you need to think of ways you can easily represent an emotion with an image and or tagline alone — then the more a prospect is exposed to you the more that initial emotions get reinforced. Approach them first with their hear which represents their emotions, interests and experiences then secure a conversation or more time from them by addressing logic through their head and then close deals and reinforce a judgement call on their part for hiring you by reinforcing their wallet which represents long term safety, security, expertise and for many success and responsibility.
