It’s Not About Race!
John Metta

As a white male, it would be arrogant of me to say that I fully understand every word of this article but it certainly makes sense to me. I’ve worked as both a language teacher and translator/interpreter many times over the years and one thing is very noticeable to me. We white English-speakers are notoriously bad at learning other people’s languages. So many of us seem to think that our language and culture are normal and everyone else’s are abnormal. So many of us expect other people to speak our language. We quite simply expect other people to express their experiences in our terms.
