And what you can do about it.

“If you’re depressed you’re living in the past, if you’re anxious you’re living in the future, if you’re at peace you’re living in the present.” — Lao Tzu

Depression or anxiety are a tricky matter. I’m 28 years old this year and I have suffered my share of both for the last decade, in varying degrees of intensity or length, with the toughest period of my life beginning in winter of 2019. However, at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021 as I was really coming back to myself I decided to…

I am not talking about that one day we all have every once in a while where you don’t really feel like doing stuff but that longer period of time when you are completely lethargic, unmotivated, feel lazy, yet you know you have so much to do yet you can’t bring yourself to do anything.

This period of life happened to me most recently when recovering from a heavy, months long depression. When I was in depression I didn’t give a s**t I wasn’t doing anything. Well, I probably did actually but…

Why can’t you do it?

Quitting smoking cigarettes for me comes along with quitting smoking cannabis (already 10 weeks with no use and no interest) after many years of constant use and curbing alcohol use to a bare minimum (a much smaller quantity than a decade ago when my steady journey with alcohol began in the coming of age period of life). All of these changes took place over the last two and half months of my life with quitting cigarettes being the most recent change.

I drafted and wrote 90% of this article the day before I quit smoking…

Forget life as you know it!

Yes, I am talking about right now. Because there’s no better time than the present. Technically, there exists no other time than the present. Time is not even made up of lots of individual moments, rather we experience constantly the one and only present moment.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery and today is a gift, that’s why they call it a present”.

Another “cliche” yet so many people have become blind to its true meaning during the pandemic.

I am not saying that pre-pandemic times are not coming back but we cannot fully…

The concept is simple and similar to many other challenges on social media you’ve seen like the ice bucket challenge. It goes like this.

A small group, but mighty. Everyone had a great time!

Aside from organizing events myself, I love joining them wherever I live or travel to or go on vacation. Joining a small, local event can be really fun. You’ll meet other people who share your interests, maybe you grab a drink together or have an evening full of activities or a longer trip away. You’ll do something spontaneous with a group of strangers, some of whom may become longer-lasting friendships or perhaps just a good memory to savour in the future.

In my experience, these events have ranged from an evening drink in a famous square of Rome in Trastevere…

…and running a successful travel business in a place I first knew nothing about

A group of French students. One of them still lives in the city and we are still friends.

I came to the Netherlands over 3 years ago with no intention of staying longer than a month, and no longer than 3 months in mainland Europe. I ended up staying, settling in and, eventually, I started a small tour company by the name Frank Tours Rotterdam, which became one of the Top Listed Companies on Trip Advisor in the city.

In short, I arrived in a completely new city and, regardless of the fact that I was no architect or historian, not even a very-familiar-with-the-area local, I still managed to successfully open and grow a business in tourism.
