What drives people and companies
Having a couple of blogposts in preparation and also regarding to recently published articles, I was wondering whether a separate column in the my online-magazine could be helpful. It´s all more or less about “New Work” (how we call it in Germany) and finding ones meaningful attempt, work or even enterprise. At the same time, I always found the existing category “People and Companies” a bit bulky. Sure, I have always reported on companies and entrepreneurs in the strict sense. Frequently enough, however, the contributions are about people who make a difference or who make something different. Joe with his Cyclery, which is actually more of a network than a bike shop. Marek, who builds bicycle frames and which is a kind od selfrealization, interviews, for example, on the topic of a positive learning environment. People who make a difference, act entrepreneurially, who do something different, who actually “do” something. I have shortened the title of the category: “PEOPLE ENTERPRISE” (German: MENSCHEN UNTERNEHMEN) is now the name and I think it hits the nail on the head.
New Work in Companies
People who do something also work in companies. Above all, the reflections regarding the four-day week or reduction of working hours in the so-called dependent employment relationship or in relation to New Work environments, made it clear to me once again: Not every change automatically leads to a venture activity. To clear the hurdle of doing business is often high enough or there is simply no relevant market. And yet people do something and changes take place. Perhaps initially on a small scale or then independently and permanently in a limited framework. This is not a deficit, it is the nature of changes: they start on a small scale.
Entrepeneurial Type
Almost all of us are entrepreneurs in one way or another. And yet only a few of us found companies. New work is an attempt to bring people closer to their original, inner, almost childlike entrepreneurship. Becoming aware of your own strengths, trying things out, working collaboratively — all of these are skills that we humans all have more or less at our disposal. Children who build a shack in the forest and people who work agile together in a corporate context and design products and applications have more in common than you might think at first glance. In both cases, learning and collaboration is the key. And often enough also to go down previously unknown paths.
Human Centered
With this in mind, reports, interviews, stories and assessments on the topic of “PEOPLE ENTERPRISE” will follow in the coming time and probably also in the course of 2020. A new old category on this page and a real matter of the heart. When I started this blog three years ago I somehow knew about my penchant for bicycles— I had no idea that it was extraordinarily distinctive. I hadn’t yet developed topics such as changes, human-centered development or even new work. And that’s how I´m developing with my webside and the blog is developing with me.
