Wine and Gatorade…

So our first car-less escapade involved a walk home after work and going to the gym. It was a typical workday. Worked for “the man” for nine hours. It was a lovely summer day, high of 85 with about 80% humidity. Our only solice during the day was our-hour lunch break. Frances had Chipotle and I had my typical protein shake and apples with peanut butter (Frances thinks its kinda freaky that I have proven that you can practially live on a diet of protein shakes, apples, and peanut butter). So anyway… After work, we went to Spin class… It’s our after work thing on Monday and Wednesdays and it is such a great workout… you should try it! After spin, we walked home, we cut through campus because it was the most direct route to our apartments. This particular part of campus we walked through has a contemporary landscape architecture thing going on where plots of grass are raised and others are sunken. Theyve got this yin and yang thing going on… harmony…how hip! Frances got the brilliant idea that I should lay on the ground and pose for a picture… well look below, the picture speaks for itself.

We discussed the idea of perhaps having a glass of wine. Well a glass of wine turned into us going to the Stop-N-Cop: the local drive-through wine and beer proprieter. Yeah, we were the car-less fools walking through the drive-through booz stand… The conversation quickly turned into cooking dinner and having friends get together for a fun (but responsible, we’re all professionals here…) evening. Frances was elated to see that they had lemon-lime flavored gatorade among the cases of beer and wine. We ended up buying three bottles of wine and 1 bottle of Gatorade. Picture this: two young professionals, car-less and walking home, post-gym sweaty, work bags, gym bags, and double-fisting wine bottles — STAY CLASSY ATHENS! The hill up to the top of our apartment complex is cray cray! You almost need a Sherpa guide and a fleet of mules to get you to the top… It took a while and at one point I had to nudge Frances up the hill, but we made it to the top! We went to our respective apartments to get cleaned up and then I went to Frances’ apartment.

Frances was being quite domestic in the kitchen, and already had a bottle of wine open. She’s a go-getter like that! Our friend Jonna had also come over. It was the trio of us cooking dinner and catching up after a few weeks of not hanging out as a group. For some reason, the chicken was taking forever to cook but it was cool, we did dinner in courses.

Course 1: a glass of wine, course 2: red beats, green beans, Kale. By the time the chicken was done, we were pretty much full on wine and veggies, but felt compelled to try this amazing looking chicken. Seeing how much chicken was left over, I think we ate a single chicken breast between the three of us. Remember that notion about us being responsible… well I think it was the super healthy dinner that allowed us to continue drinking. It’s no secret Latin music is one of Frances’ and my guilty pleasures. We blasted our favorite Latin station on Spotify and La Fiesta Latina Comienza!!!!

What do you call drinking wine and salsa dancing at 10:30PM? Well, we called it Monday. Eventually Frances’ roommate, Jana, came and was happy to join the dance party as well. (If you are paying attention, yes, we have a Jonna and jana in our click, confusing) Oh and we had to open another bottle of wine… We continued to dance, but then switched the music over to some sweet jams from Pitch Perfect. We have this tradition of singing and dancing to almost all of the Pitch Perfect songs, especially the ones from the national finals scene. Frances got up on an end table and used a lit candle as microphone while I sang in a perfect falsetto completely harmonizing with the ladies voices. At one point Frances roommate and I were perfectly head-bobbing in sync — it was almost as if we had been practicing our choriography.

Well, if you haven’t gotten the picture, just an idea from walking home after work turned into one of the funnest nights we had all summer. Here’s to wine and gatorade!
