Podcasts are a fast growing trend because they allow people to improve themselves while doing errands, commuting or doing 2 things at once. All for free! As people get more exposed to podcasts and realize the value they bring and compare them to reading full-length books, it’s hard to argue that they can get spoiled. They get used to the ease-of-use, efficiency, and availability of a good podcast.
Stories are another one of the fastest growing trends in social media today. They allow people to quickly browse through the updates of those they care about, be those sports stars, musicians, niche community leaders or friends. Stories visually quickly tell us what’s going on right now, and then they disappear. They solve the problem of “too much content and not enough time”. If all content stuck around forever, then pretty soon the amount of content would grow out of proportion. Snapchat and Instagram really jumped on this trend and now all major platforms are offering the story format.
What you can do if you’re a podcast creator or a fan that wants to share some awesome podcast content with friends is: combine the two worlds. A free app called “Podcast Story Maker” allows posting short, catchy clips of a podcast’s favorite quotes straight onto Instagram Stories and Timeline feed. It creates multiple 10 or 15 sec clips for stories or 1 minute clips for Timeline, cutting them to length automatically. Each clip has a video wave animation and a few layouts to choose from for the framing of the podcast art. You can add a catchy title like: “Iron Mike on Tigers” or “Elon Musk on Flamethrowers”.
I like the idea of mixing social media platforms. Since Instagram is red hot, all Podcasters should be posting their clips to Stories and Timeline non stop, especially since these clips only take a minute to make. Podcast Story Maker can also be used as a regular podcast player, playing in the background. When you hear a snippet you like, open the app, and create a story video from that section. It’s a specialized tool for Podcast video creation on mobile.
If you tried using Podcast Story Maker, please let me know what you thought and any suggestions on how to improve it. If you enjoyed it, please leave us a review on the app store as well. Happy Podcasting!
