Carlos V. Francisco, also known as Botong Francisco, is muralist. Which means they paint directly on wall. He was born on November 4, 1912 at Angono Rizal, Philippines. He is known for his works such as The Blood Compact, First Mass at Limasawa, Rizal’s Martyrdom and Bonifacio mural.

In the painting Bonifacio Mural, Botong Francisco created a depiction of Andres Bonifacio and the KKK. I see in the painting Andres Bonifacio, the Katipuneros, the flag of KKK and women who treat their husbands, who maybe Katipuneros. In the painting, Andres Bonifacio led the KKK in the revolution against the Spaniards. Andres is holding a revolver and an itak. Some katipuneros used bamboos as their spear, one has a rifle, another one has a knife and the others have their itaks. Also there re flame above the painting, which I think it symbolizes the burning of their passion to revolt against the Spaniards. It means the fire will be not be easily taken out.

I think the artist wants us to see the patriotism of the Filipinos. The revolted against the Spaniards, who conquer our country and treat us like slaves. The abuse power of the Spaniards is huge so the Filipinos revolted against them. Andres Bonifacio created KKK and fight for the freedom of our country.

I saw this painting many times. Every time I see this work, I’m proud to be a Filipino. I feel being patriotic. Because Filipinos fought for our independence after being conquered for 333 years.

Bonifacio Mural is about Andres Bonifacio leading the Katipuneros in revolting against the Spaniards. Bonifacio and the Katipuneros fought for our freedom and freed us from the chains of abusive power of the Spaniards.
