In 2017, I completed a durational installation made out of 15,541 feet of clothesline installed in an alternative Bushwick project space called Secret Dungeon. I have a background and education in craft, so I was working with the concept of how both women’s work and craft history has occupied a lesser ranking, an invisibility in the art world. A lot of that is changing. 200 hours was the amount of time I spent finger crocheting the piece over the course of six weeks. …

I grew up attending a prestigious private school where my mother was hired to run the computer department. She earned an advanced degree in astrophysics in Moscow which impressed the school, who was building a technology department paying homage to 20th century titans of tech. Her education was impressive on all counts. As accreditation was difficult to translate, many new immigrants were overqualified for their positions in America. My mother started working with computers when the first Apple machines were an exotic commodity and helped run the department for the next thirty years. I was enrolled in the sixth grade and completed high school there. …
