HOW TO TIE FLY FISHING KNOTS
Just like having basic tools like a scissors or pillars in your toolbox, all Anglers should have a basic knowledge on how to Fly Fishing. Today we will look at basic knot typing tricks that I assure you will come in handy on the water. In this article I wouldn’t use technical fly-fishing terms or lingo. Will be breaking it right down. Short videos given at the end so you don’t spend half the day in a tutorial then on the water.
First up will be the Albright Knot.
*Has many uses including joining different lines together.
1. First make a loop with you thicker line. In the video, it will be the gold one.
2. Pass the smaller line (blue line) through the loop and pinch it against the larger line.
3. Then wrap it around 10 times.
4. And pull it back through the loop to itself.
5. Lube it, and then pull it tight.
*Depending on your skills and what you can manage, some people choice to lube the line from the beginning. That’s up to you, which you prefer.

Next up we have the Bimini Twist Knot
1. Make a loop long enough to at least be able to twist 20 times.
2. Use you fingers and thumbs to squeeze the loop together. * It will cause tag end tighten around the twist.
3. Next hold it in place and secure it by what is called a half hitch. It’s basically a knot around just one of lines that made the first loop.
4. Then make a 4-loop hitch around both lines this time and Pass the tag end back through the space in front of the twists. Moisten the knot and tighten it.
5. Lastly, Trim the access line.

The Clinch Knot
*This is a very popular knot because it used to tie you hooks to the fishing line.
1. Pass the line through the eye of the hook.
2. Then wrap it back around the line at least 5 times. (For the improved version 9)
3. Don’t pull it tight around the hook because, you will need to pass the end back through the loop by the eye.
4. Lubricate the knot with saliva and draw it tight with a quick pull on the fly and the standing part of the tippet. Trim the access as close to the knot as possible.

1. Pass the end of the line, through the eye of the hook and back around the line creating a knot but don’t tighten it.
2. Then, go back around and up through the loop again.
3. Then repeat again but instead of up go down.

· Normally used to join two lines the same size together.
1. Place the two lines to be joined.
2. Wrap one line around the other 6 times, then the line that is left, tuck it between the lines at the beginning where you started the wrap.
3. Then do the same with the other line in the opposite direction.
4. Then pull tight.
5. Trim the ends, if any.

*This knot also has an improved version name “The Improved Blood Knot”
1. Double about 4 inches of the lighter strand and cross it over the heavier strand, about 4 inches from the tag end.
2. Wind the heavier strand three times around the stranding part of the doubled strand. Poke the loop of the doubled strand through the place where it first crossed the doubled strand.
3. Wind the doubled strand 4 times over the heavier strand, working away from the end where they first crossed. Pass the loop of the doubled strand through the same hole where the tag end of the heavier strand goes through, but in the opposite direction.
4. Pull on the standing ends to tighten the knot.
5. Trim the tag end of the bigger piece, and the loop of the lighter piece close to the knot.

Haywire Twist Knot
1. Pass the line through the eye of the hook.

4. Pass the end through the loop of the figure 8 closest to the fly. Weave the line back through the figure 8.
5. Now pull it down near hook but not too tight yet.
6. Tie an overhand or loose knot with the end of the line that was used to weave through the figure 8 around the standing part of the line. The distance between this knot and the first knot determines the size of your loop.
7. Pull on the fly until the two knots snap together, forming a loop. Trim the left over line.
