I have collected many DVD discs of Disney/Hollywood movies. And after upgrading my Windows 8 to Windows 10, this is the first time for me to backup DVD (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) on the new Windows OS. I firstly tried MakeMKV (1.10.2 Beta version)

Official Download URL: http://www.makemkv.com/download

Step 1: After downloading and installing the 10.1MB-sized package on your Windows 10, inserting the DVD disc into DVD-ROM drive, and launch MakeMKV BETA. All things go smoothly, MakeMKV will recognize the DVD disc automatically and all the info. will show up on the interface.

Step 2: Click “Open DVD disk”, MakeMKV will add and analyze all the titles of DVD. I can view all the actions on progress area. Some faked titles are directly skipped by software and won’t show up. Eventually, the most possible right titles will be listed as a tree structure with a MPEG2 video file, several audio and subtitle files in each title. Since this is the first time to use MakeMKV, I didn’t do any change on the checked titles and want to check out whether MakeMKV can output the right full-length movie video clip.

Step 3: “Output folder” can be set by clicking yellow folder icon to browse and select. Alternatively, it’s workable to directly tap the path in blank bar.

Step 4: Press “Make MKV” icon to save selected title into the destination folder on Windows 10 PC. Then a window like loading DVD in step 1 pops up where source DVD name/size, read rate, output file/size, free space, elapsed/remaining DVD backup to MKV time and the operation progress can be viewed. Smartly, the DVD backup to MKV task can also be canceled at any time the orange pause button is clicked.

Step 5: Open and watch the full movie video in MKV format with proper video player like VLC. [The largest video clip is of course the right one]

If you encounter the MakeMKV DVD backup failure/error on Windows 10, or want to decrypt backup DVD main/full title with the right title checked, or wanna rip DVD to MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, MP3, iOS, Android devices. Get best MakeMKV alternative for Windows 10/Mac here. I’ve already tested it, much easier to handle, smarter than MakeMKV!
