7 Recommended Books For Astrology Beginners
Here are my 7 recommended books for astrology beginners if you are studying astrology for professional practice, as a hobby, or just simply curious about astrology.
#1. The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology by April Elliot Kent
This book gives you very comprehensive explanations of the astrology language. In this book, you will be introduced to the world of astrology that goes beyond the 12 zodiac signs you see in the newspaper column. You will also learn how to decipher the birth chart and determine the secrets of what your birth chart reveals regarding the major events of your life.
This is one of my very first books I bought when I first started out as a beginner in astrology. It provided me with the fundamentals of what I needed to know about my birth chart and since the day I read this book, I never looked back. I highly recommend this to all beginners in astrology and to anyone who is curious about what astrology can do for you and your life.
#2. You Were Born For This by Chani Nicholas
If you are looking for some answers to self-acceptance and insights into yourself as a person, this book takes you into the world of astrology to help you explore your identity and what makes you the way you are. It teaches you how to pull out your birth charts and offers you easy-to-understand explanations on the sign, house, and planet placements on your chart so that you get to know yourself better. I would recommend this book for beginners in astrology because of its simplicity and comprehensive guide to the signs, houses and planets.

Craving for more astrology knowledge as a beginner but don’t know how or where to go? Get this book. It completes your search on basic information about astrology so you don’t have to look any further; just focus on mastering the fundamentals.
This book has additional features on its content: Aspects, Decans and the Retrograde. Be in awe when you get this book because the information you get is going to overwhelm you quite a bit as a beginner, but it is going to bring a lot of insights into your study of astrology.
This book is one of my favourites when I started out as a beginner because I always thirst for more knowledge and so this material works for me. If you don’t mind the challenge of exploring more information as a beginner, then this book is for you to kick start your astrology studies.

For those of you who aspire to be an astrologer one day, or simply read the birth chart for yourself to gain better insights into your own personality, this book offers all the essential configurations in the horoscope by explaining the aspects of its expressions with clear and concise descriptions. Keywords are especially important if you want to read the birth chart for others. Therefore, this book is something which you don’t want to miss at the beginning phase of your astrology quest.
Highly recommend this for the beginners. It is also a good book for intermediate and advanced astrologers to keep for reference.
#5. Introduction to Traditional Natal Astrology by Charles Obert
For beginners who are courageous to pick up more challenging information about Traditional Astrology, this book is a must-have on your bookshelf! Regardless of what House Systems you’re using in your readings of the birth chart, this book focuses on traditional astrology which is more closely related to the Hellenistic tradition. And thus, you will be exposed to tons of comprehensive basic information about the birth chart and how to decipher the birth chart using traditional methods in astrology. I am a traditional astrologer, and I highly recommend this book!

This book provides key information and some notable discussions on the elements within astrology, including key ideas for elemental imbalance. Also, if you are planning to specialise in the area of psychological astrology, then this book will give you that insights and foundation in your astrology quest.

For a typical beginner, this book by the ever amazing Demetra George is going to be a slight challenge to read. However, if you are drawn to challenges and want to push yourself beyond your limit, just to know a little bit more about the various functions and techniques of astrology, then this book is an excellent guide for you to have as part of your personal collection. Demetra George studied mythology as part of her practice and so this book will be touching on the healing power of mythology and how it addresses sufferings. In addition, it covers functions of the birth chart as well as the techniques of deciphering the birth chart such as the Transits and Progressions, Eclipses and Moon Phases, Solar Return, Annual Profection, Lunar Nodes, Arabic Parts, and Asteroids Archetypes. Take a deep breath for this one and a breather for it too if you find it tough at first. Once you have digested this book, you’re somewhat ready for the intermediate level!
