“ Teachers never tried to situate events within modern contexts or to teach us the value of studying history.”

As an aspiring History teacher I hope to do that sort of thing. I’ll HAVE to teach the names and dates drivel, but I’m going to make a conscious effort to push the kids to understand how history affects now.

For instance I plan to do a bit on how Conrad von Hotzendorf is the most important person of the 20th century, because his choice to push for a very avoidable war with Serbia brought us WW1 and EVERYTHING that follows from it.
