Wander: Discover the Magic of Getting Lost and Finding Your Way Back
For the past couple of months, I’ve been feeling this irresistible desire to be in a far away place where nobody knows me, or about me, or of me. Somewhere new and different.
I try to convince myself, “Maybe I needed a place where everybody is a complete stranger — where people couldn’t judge me. Maybe I wanted to run away from something or from someone” Maybe? I don’t know.
One thing’s for sure, though. I was so damn scared to be alone. I have no idea what to do or where to go. My friends doubt I’ll survive a day without a company. “Are you sure about this? You don’t even know how to read directions!”, they said. “Guys, I have to be lost in order to be found”, I replied humorously, but deep inside I was afraid to the point of tears. I did it anyway. I booked a ticket and left.

Traveling by myself made me discover a lot of possibilities and experiences that I never thought this world has to offer. It helped me understand people despite of differing views, culture, race, sexuality and beliefs.

It taught me to keep an open mind to learn from life’s journey, an open heart to enjoy each destination and an open eye to appreciate the beauty of the unknown.

As I come across this daring adventure, I asked myself for the last time “Am I really lost?” and I answered certainly “Nah. I am not. I am on my way to a better destination.”

Explore the world. It would be a waste if you don’t try and see it. After all, life is not meant to be lived in one place. It might be easier said than done but I guarantee it is worth it. At some point it’ll frighten you. Do it anyway. Remember, being afraid doesn’t mean something bad is about to happen — it only gives you the chance to be brave and the chance to be bold out of your comfort zone.
