Because of my mixed ancestry, I followed this Sacred Circle with keen interest and was plugged into the live streams. What I witnessed was what I would consider a growing momentum that I didn’t think was possible not too long ago. It was clear that the Holy Spirit was present at Sacred Circle and that the work the delegates were doing was Spirit driven. I have the privilege of being part of a ministry in my Diocese that is working to establish a faith community in which indigenous symbols and teachings are intertwined with the Gospel. I find it discouraging as I read comments from many of our non-indigenous brothers and sisters on social media that there is opposition to the creation of a self-determined Indigenous Church in Canada. The need to educate non-Indigenous Anglicans about indigenous spiritual practices and their similarity to Christian tradition is crucial in addressing the issue. We have come a long way but we still have a lot of work to do.
