What a bubble isn’t

a.k.a. nobody cares about your opinion, Dude.

To quickly recap, a bubble isn’t:

  • when products whose value you don’t understand raise lots of money
  • when products whose value you don’t understand get massive traction
  • when you look at an idea and think “man that’s so stupid this must be a bubble that they got any funding at all”

In short, nobody (meaning the market) cares about your opinion. Maybe you care about your opinion. Your mum almost definitely cares about your opinion. But your opinion — unless you’re a precog, and then let’s be real that’s hardly opinion — is irrelevant and uncorrelated with the state of the tech industry or how bubbley this bubble is.

Glad we got that out of the way.
