Previously in Iraq war, Turkey decided to remain passive and this affected Turkey very negatively. This time on the other hand Turkey has concluded that it should intervene and be an active player. Taking Turkey’s caliber into account, things haven’t all gone well. Turkey has had to host 3.5 million refugees, brace 31 Syria related terrorist attacks (mostly by refugees) and lost soldiers there. Talking about Ottoman Empire or “conquests” is a way of pacifying citizens who suffer what has happening right now. The idea is simple: If there is no gain at the end, people may ask why they are suffering, why they have to host so many refugees (who are even involved in terrorist activities) and why they are losing their sons in Syria.
