Protect Your at Face at Night This Summer
Enough about sunscreen! What else can I do?
Summer means lots of sunshine. The long cold harsh winter is over and we can finally wear shorts and sunglasses. Typically, we view this as a good thing and we take precautions by applying plenty of sunscreen. But, the sun can still take a toll on that gorgeous face of yours, even if you use sunscreen. So, what can you do at night, when you’re done with the sun for the day, to keep your face fresh and vibrant for another fun day in the sun?
The answer? You implement an evening skincare routine. Here is a nightly routine you can do at home. It’s important to take care of your face when it’s out of the sun too! Follow the order listed.
1. Wash Your Face
Use a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil that won’t irritate the skin. I prefer Cetaphil because it was formulated for dermatologists to use on sensitive skin. It’s fragrance-free and mild enough for a baby. Wash with warm water and then pat your skin dry.
Exfoliate using a circular motion. Move from your forehead to your cheeks to your chin and then your nose. You want something that will remove dead skin cells that clog pore. After you’ve exfoliated, rinse your skin with cold water to close the pores.
I swear by a product I found at the Smith Haven Mall at one of those kiosks. It’s called Vine Vera and it’s part of the Merlot Collection. You can also get it on Amazon. This is my one facial splurge, but it’s worth it! Wow does this make my face look radiant. It also lasts a long time. You only need to exfoliate about twice a week and a dab goes a long way.
3. Refresh & Re-balance with A Toner
Each night, refresh your face with a nice toner. A toner will help you restore a healthy moisture and oil balance while soothing the skin. I like ACURE’s facial toner with balancing rose and red tea. I give my face a refreshing splash of this toner as needed throughout the day as well. One or two sprays each time will make this product last for several months.
4. Rub Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream under Eyes
Eye creams don’t need to cost a fortune. A quality drugstore brand will do the trick. Stop the wrinkles before they start by getting on top of this in your 20s.
5. Finish with A Moisturizer
Since you’ll be heading to bed right after this summer evening face care routine, now is the time to say thank you for your beautiful face by nourishing it with an intense cold cream moisturizer. The kind I used to get — Pond’s Cold Cream — is the kind my grandmother used and the woman had amazing skin in her 80s! Unfortunately, I can only find this exact kind when I travel to India in the winter, but any moisturizer with skin nutrients will work great. I like the Verso Night Cream by Sephora.
Nighttime Skin Care
After a long day in the sun, be sure to refresh and renew that beautiful face of yours every night. Take care of your face each night with this simple routine. It takes only about 5 minutes and can be done as soon as you get out of the shower.
