Prominent feminist and independent journalist Huang Xueqin, also known as Sophia Huang, was detained by Chinese authorities in Guangzhou, China, on October 17, 2019. She has been charged with “picking quarrels and provoking trouble,” a vague crime often used against activists and journalists in China that could mean up to five years in prison.
