Craig, as someone who has been listening to The Killers since their first song hit the radio in 2004, I hope you’ll allow me to curate a playlist for you. This may sound like blasphemy to some, but I see The Killers are the closest thing to Queen these days.
I’m going to pick 5 songs for you from each of their albums, but I can listen to any of them front to back without skipping one. They’re listed below in chronological order. Enjoy!
Their first album, Hot Fuss, came out in 2004 and featured two of their biggest, most popular songs, Somebody Told Me and Mr. Brightside, however my personal favorite from their debut effort, and probably my favorite song of theirs as a whole, is All These Things That I’ve Done.
Next is Sam’s Town (2006), which only had one radio hit, “When You Were Young”, but I’d argue that the songs that follow it on the album, Bling, For Reasons Unknown, and Read My Mind, are all better.
Their best album, in my opinion, is Day & Age (2008). The first 5 songs are all insanely catchy and fun to listen to. Human and Spaceman were the two big hits, but my second favorite song of theirs, and the one which reminds me the most of Queen, is A Dustland Fairytale.
In 2012 they released Battle Born after taking some time off to pursue individual projects, and, well, it’s far from their best work. Runaways and Miss Atomic Bomb had some legs but my favorite on the album is From Here On Out, a fast pop-country jam that sounds like something from another era.
