Canada’s complicated relationship with its indigenous residents

Wording - is very important. I wouldn’t say indigenous ‘residents’. This sounds as if one is referring to a category of migrants or temporary ‘residents’. It evokes a major problem that First Peoples despise — when events on inclusion/diversity etc. are organised, indigenous representatives are often invited to sit next to representatives of[non-white] migrant communities. This is not on, as it is a way of not granting First Peoples their rightful place in society. On the contrary, we are talking about the rightful owners of the land, and a different and more diplomatic term would be advisable.
