How To Stop Peter Pettigrew From Escaping?
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, book 3 of the HP series by J.K. Rowling, should have ended differently.
Peter Pettigrew should not have been able to escape. Sirius Black should not have had to go on the run. Harry Potter should not have had to go back to living with the Dursleys.
Do you believe this? Do you think there’s a plothole in this part of the book? Let’s take a closer look at this issue:
Peter Pettigrew used to be a good friend of James Potter (Harry’s dad), Sirius Black (Harry’s godfather and James’ best friend) and Remus Lupin (werewolf and Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry).
What happened in Prisoner of Azkaban?
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we find out that it was really Peter Pettigrew who betrayed Harry’s parents (James and Lily Potter). The rat blamed all of his crimes on Sirius Black so the latter was the one who got punished by getting lifetime imprisonment in Azkaban prison.
Peter Pettigrew should pay for his crimes
After finding out what really happened, it was decided that Peter Pettigrew would be chained to Ron Weasley and Remus Lupin and that they would all (that would be Harry, Hermione Granger, Sirius and even Severus Snape (though he’s currently unconscious at the moment)) go and bring him to the proper authorities so that he could be held accountable for all the crimes he committed.
If Peter Pettigrew had been unconscious just like Severus Snape, then maybe he wouldn’t have been able to escape and Sirius Black could have gotten his name cleared.
What’s the proper and best way to restrain Peter Pettigrew?
Let’s consider this question: was there really no other way of doing this? Was there really no other way to restrain Peter Pettigrew? Was it really necessary that he be chained in between two people? If so, seriously, why?
Why did he have to be conscious in the first place? They could have rendered him unconscious and then have someone drag him around or make him float much like what Sirius Black was doing with Severus Snape (the guy was unconscious, remember?).
They could also have made sure that the rat was heavily tied up and that he couldn’t transform back into his Animagus form.
Alternatively, maybe they could have transformed him into his rat form and then someone could have transfigured a cage wherein they could lock him inside. Surely, there were so many more options and possibilities that could have prevented Peter Pettigrew from escaping.
Everyone should really have been more wary of the rat especially considering all the things that he did such as killing a whole lot of people and framing Sirius for crimes that the latter didn’t commit.
Your thoughts and opinions
So, what do you think about this? How do you think Pettigrew should have been restrained? If it were up to you, how would you restrain Peter?
