The Impossible Things

After my son was born, I was sure that putting clothes on that kid was one of the most impossible tasks of caring for a baby. It always felt like I was going to break his arm. (And trying to sock those tiny flailing feet!)
Diapers weren’t so hard at first, but the more active he’s become, the harder that has gotten. He loves putting his legs up when they need to be down, and down when they need to go up. More recently, he loves grappling my arms with his feet. Or rolling over during his diaper changes. Or trying to get at what’s inside his diaper. It’s adorable.
The newest impossible task is cleanup after eating. We’ve been introducing solid foods over the last couple of weeks, and mostly he’s been into it. But cleanup is a whole other thing. Wipe the tray down before his hands and you’ve got a dirty tray within seconds. Clean his hands before the tray, and we’re back to square one. Wipe his face first, and his hands try to mess up his face while you’re wiping it.
I have no idea what the next impossible task will be, but one thing I’m learning is that it takes way more Jiu-Jitsu to be a parent than I had assumed.
