One & half year back I had no clue what does frontend web developer mean. I was assuming that if you learned HTML, CSS, JS & React, you are a frontend developer.

However, in most cases it’s true, like you can get a decent job if you have these skills, and from there you can learn several things like UI, UX, NATIVE, etc. and grow from there. (I know most of you might be at web dev. stage, but this post is not to discourage you, it is to get clear understanding and move from this point.)

Here is the short difference which you should know about difference between frontend web development & frontend development.

Frontend Web Development

Frontend web development refers to the process of creating the parts of a website that you can see and interact with, such as the layout, design, and functionality. It involves writing code in programming languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create the visual elements of a website, such as buttons, forms, and images, and making them work smoothly for users.

Stack for frontend web development

  • HTML to create the structure and content of web pages.
  • CSS to control the layout, design, and appearance of web pages.
  • JavaScript to add interactivity and functionality to web pages.
  • Frontend Frameworks/Libraries: Tools like React, Angular, or Vue that provide pre-built components and functionality to speed up web development.
  • Web Development Tools: Tools like code editors (e.g. Visual Studio Code), version control (e.g. Git).
  • Responsive Design: Techniques and best practices to ensure websites work well on different devices and screen sizes.

Frontend Development

Frontend development in a broader sense refers to the process of creating the user-facing components of any software application, not just websites.

This can include creating user interfaces for mobile apps, video games, or even digital kiosks.

Stack for frontend development

Including everything from stack of frontend web development;

  • User Interface (UI) Design: Designing the visual appearance and user interactions of software applications, including websites, mobile apps, and other user interfaces.
  • UX Design: Focusing on creating a positive user experience by understanding user behavior, conducting research, and optimizing the usability of the software application.
  • Interaction Design: How users interact with the software application, including designing and implementing user flows, input fields, buttons, and other interactive elements.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ensuring that the software application works well across different web browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimizing the performance of the software application, including reducing load times, improving rendering speed, and optimizing resource usage.

Example

Let’s take an example of building a website for a local pizza restaurant. In frontend web development, you would write code to create the menu page with pictures and descriptions of different pizzas, design the layout and color scheme of the website, and add interactive elements like buttons for placing orders.

In frontend development, you could also be involved in creating the user interface for a mobile app that allows customers to place pizza orders, track their delivery, and make payments.

This would involve designing the screens of the app, coding the buttons and forms, and making sure the app works well on different devices like smartphones and tablets.

Conclusion

Overall, check linkedin, most frontend web developers claim to be frontend developers, but they truly aren’t.

Learning, HTML, CSS, JS & React, will not make you a frontend developer, you have to keep going toward UI, UX, Apps, Optimization, etc.

But also, after HTML, CSS & JS, everything is easier to learn.

OKAY, let me make it sound easier to you;

The difference is one is just about web and another is about everything.

Hope this short difference has helped you🧘‍♀️

Comment, where are you currently, I’d love to interact.
