There’s been contention in some Christian circles about who God’s choice to lead Nigeria is, which has now led to some confusion. There are two camps: the first believes that God’s will for Nigeria is Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo (PYO); the other believes that since PYO did not make it to the ballot, God’s choice is now Governor Peter Obi (PO). I’m neutral.
The first says it doesn’t work that way, that we must hold steadfastly unto God’s word, and that it is PYO or nothing. The second says, “what?” I’m of the opinion that both camps are actually on the right track with their prophecies, but the first camp is essentially leading Christians to voter apathy, and it’s dangerous.
You see, it seems we haven’t fully learnt God’s behaviour yet. We are still trying to put Him in a box made by our tiny minds. The same God of the Universe? HE CANNOT BE BOXED IN! His ways are far higher than our ways.
Why have we assumed God can use just one person? That was Elijah’s mistake, and God rebuked him; told him not to overrate himself. God told him He still had 7000 people just like him in Israel! It was unnecessary arrogance and pride. Do we also want God to clear our own doubt by allowing a worse candidate to attain power? Even for a while? Just so we know that He remains God and can do as He likes?
Was the 400 years of Israelite suffering in Egypt God’s will or not? I mean, He did tell Abraham about the event long before it happened. Was Judas Iscariot God’s will? The Lord Jesus handpicked him. Would the Lord have betrayed Himself? God can do as He likes.
So let’s quit the presumptions and prejudice; we do not have a monopoly on God! Funny enough, I posted about this topic on Instagram six years ago this month. Almost like I saw the future then.
PYO or PO, let God be God. Do not put Him in a box! As a prophet or watchman, you just say what He has asked you to say, then leave Him to bring His word to pass as and when He sees fit.
Voting is not a sin. Rather, it is your civic right and responsibility. After the elections, we can then further discuss who God’s choice is between PYO and PO. There’s actually something there.
