My Organic Lifestyle

It’s been a long time coming.

But finally my partner, child, cat and myself have moved onto our tiny smallholding.

Our house is 100 years old and small. It’s a tiny Australian cottage with a veranda, two bedrooms, a dining room, living room, kitchen, laundry nook and bathroom. The piece de resistance is is the garden.

Surrounded by hills, open pasture and woodland we are blessed to be on 3/4 of an acre of organic loveliness and tasty vegetables. Along with our two chickens Zippy and Bungle, we are constantly in a state of excitement. Collecting eggs each day, with plans to add five more birds to Chickenopolis is simply blissful

What have we planted so far?

There’s a lot of good things happening in our garden, even after the two short week we’ve been here. Let’s see, there’s aubergines, several varieties of chilli, tomatoes, spinach, kale, potatoes, pumpkin, nasturtium, zucchini, watermelon, canteloupe, tomatillo, sweet corn, glass gem corn, tamarillo and a bunch of other vegetables that I can’t remember, not to mention lots of cottage garden flowers and a myriad of herbs.

Off-grid?

We’re not all the way there yet. But we do have solar power and use water tanks. We also like to place containers about the place for extra water saving…
