Getting the lo-gist-ics of it
Like the team focussing on the content of next year’s Fast Stream Conference, we in the logistics team are following Agile ways of working. As you can imagine, the logistics behind a big conference are a big challenge — why not take a look at our Trello board and check out what’s keeping us occupied?
For a few of us, Agile seemed a bit scary at first. For a start, we hadn’t done a lot of sprinting since our school sports days, and even then we weren’t much good at it.
But with each sprint we’re getting more effective as a team. We’re discovering that Agile is all about working collaboratively by sharing capacity and knowledge, and supporting each other to work as efficiently as possible. We’re going to be sharing our experiences with you here on the blog and keeping you updated on the many lessons we learn along the way.
A National Conference
We’re working in the open, and we want the conference to be open, too. It won’t just be for Fast Streamers based in London, but those in other locations as well. We’ve done some research, and it turns out that you’re based across the UK like this:
To ensure national participation and fair access, we’re committing to allocating tickets proportionately on these figures.
Opening up Participation
As well as Fast Streamers managed by CSR, we want to include Fast Streamers on non-centrally managed schemes like economists and statisticians.
We’re also going to invite some Fast Track Apprentices who might be interested in applying for the Fast Stream. We hope and expect they’ll be the Conference organisers of the future!
And we’re going to make it as simple as possible them to apply for tickets by drafting a business case they can show to their line manager. That’s GDS Design Principle 4:
The Golden Ticket
So we know who to expect on the day, we need to make sure that those who wish to attend the Fast Stream Conference have a ticket.
Holding true to our user-centric, data-driven ideals, we’re currently creating prototypes on a number of different ticketing systems. These different systems will be tested with users next week and we’ll decide which method to use on the basis of that testing. We want the system to be as simple and efficient as possible, while allowing us to crunch the numbers on our end.
After that, we’ll be letting you know as soon as possible when you can apply for tickets. Watch this space over the next few weeks.
