Hair transplant — the costs involved
A worldwide phenomenon
Almost 70% of all men will face hair loss and baldness at some point or the other in their life. One in every 4 men will suffer from male pattern baldness before he reaches 30. So we can safely say that male pattern baldness is global and most of those affected would do almost anything to get their old hairline back.
Hair transplant is a long term solution for baldness and can provide respite to young people suffering from MPB(Male Pattern Baldness). There are two main types of transplant. These are follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting. In follicular unit extraction (FUE), individual follicles of hair are harvested from the head and transplanted in the bald region. In strip harvesting, a strip of skin with hair is taken from the back of the head and then individual follicles are extracted from it.
Any of the two methods used is a minimally invasive surgery that takes less than half a day to complete. The patient is operated under local anesthesia and can leave for home within a couple of hours of completion of the operation. The operation doesn’t leave any scars and results can be seen within 3–4 months after surgery.
Hair Transplant Costs
Most people who opt for wigs or weaves believe that hair transplant costs a lot of money. But there are parts of the world where it is both cheap and safe. Hair Transplant costs can depend on a large number of factors and varies from case to case. The reason for this is the hair quality is different in individuals and for some people a smaller number of grafts may work whereas for some a large number of follicles is required. The fixed cost of an operation is the use of medical facilities, the anesthesia specialist and machinery. The variable cost depends on the number of individual follicles that are used for transplant. If these are done over multiple sessions it will increase the fixed cost again. But a small number of follicles each session is far safer and a standard acceptable practice than transplanting a large number of follicles at one go.
Depending on the part of the world where you get the surgery the cost may vary a lot. Some cheap clinics and transplant centers attract customers by mentioning the low prices such as 1300 Euros for transplant, without mentioning any further details. But the customer needs to be wary of such places as they can do more damage than good. A good doctor will never allow a large number of transplants in a single session. They would evaluate the results of each sitting before recommending the next.
Turkey Is one of the most preferred destination in Europe when it comes to hair transplant procedures. A FUT procedure costs between $1700 and $2800 in Turkey whereas the same may cost as much as $20,000 in other countries. With more than 5000, people coming to Turkey every month from Europe and Middle East for hair transplant surgery, it has become one of the top destinations for getting transplants. Today the hair transplant industry is a $1 billion dollar business in Turkey and growing.
