Correct but as this is already known as painful ux displaying an option how to improve would improve the user’s experience a lot, e.g. “try john.doe@johndoe.com” as a button with a refresh option would make it hugely less painful.

Of course you’d need to set up some rules behind the scenes to make helpful suggestions, suggestions like john123@johndoe.com are already out in the wild.
