I Do Sex Work So I Can Look at Myself in the Mirror

I had to pause at the sentence that said 47% of black trans people have done sex work. It speaks volumes to the power dynamics involved in the sex and pornography industries.

It’s a tragic injustice that many trans people can’t afford insurance, or can’t get insurance coverage for hormones and surgery, which for many are absolutely medically necessary. And trans women have it especially bad as electrolysis is rarely covered by insurance. Laser hair removal might be a cosmetic procedure for a cis woman, but for a trans woman, having a five o’clock shadow can literally be life-threatening.
