A 29 Year Old Girl Dies at Burning Man

Alicia Louise Cipicchio passed away at Burning Man this year due to an accident involving a large art car which she fell under on Thursday August 28th, 2014. She was from Jackson, Wyoming and worked at Rare Gallery, an art gallery in town.

Event officials, including representatives of Black Rock City, the Bureau of Land Management and Pershing County Sheriff’s Office express their condolences and sympathies to the family, friends and campmates of the victim. Support is being provided to those affected by the tragedy. Burning Man’s co-founder said this is “a terrible accident. … Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and campmates.”

Burning Man is a fantastic event that will pull more than 63,000 visitors in 2014. It is part of the culture to bring cars or ‘art cars’. They are made up vehicles that drive around and transport people around the several square mile desert venue. Some of these art cars can be 100 foot long boats or 3 story high buses.

Burning Man has not had a death since 2007, when a woman fell under a large trailer that was being pulled by an art car.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the woman who died at Burning Man this year.
