A historic day in Seattle.

Nathalie Molina Niño was right in predicting this historic day!

“There was a little quiver in my chin, a catch in my voice and welling up of tears in my eyes at the Future for Us Assembly event on Saturday. It was the first time that I was in such a large (300+) gathering of women of color event in Seattle. I was overwhelmed with emotion for not being “the only one” — woman, black, immigrant, etc., in the room. I know many others felt the same way about the specific identities that they hold.”

When Future for Us launched in January 2019, we knew there was a need for a platform for womxn of color professionals. We are incredibly grateful to the brilliant speakers, participants and volunteers who spent the day with us, and to our sponsors who voted with their wallets to get this event off the ground. Never in our wildest dreams, did we envision 300 womxn of color, coming together for a day of connection, collaboration, and culture.

Here are two of the biggest takeaways from our anchor speakers:

🔑 You are not defined by the chapters in your life because you are writing a novel. Each individual chapter is but a piece in the mosaic of our lives. By itself, it cannot define us as people or leaders. We shouldn’t regret any single chapter as we learn from setbacks on our journey. Focus on finishing your novel strong. It’s all about impact.”

🔑 “8 /10 businesses started by women are founded by womxn of color. We are in the majority. Until women who look like us are writing the checks we won’t see the change we are seeking.”
- Nathalie Molina Niño

Womxn of color are powerful and ready to lead. We are no longer waiting for an invitation for a seat at the table. As a platform we hope to continue amplifying, supporting and nurturing this dynamic community of womxn, and their allies and champions.

We’re just getting started!

Until next time,
Sage & Aparna
