Observation: Week 11

It was a bit of a boring week for observing. However, there is one main thing that stuck out for me while observing this week. In the psychology class I was observing, the teacher was having trouble getting the students attention. The students had recently come back from their Thanksgiving break, which was over a week long. They kept wanting to talk and not pay attention in general. She told the students that she needed to get their attention back if they wanted to review, because the next step was for them to take a test. So, if they did not review, they would have a test the next day. She said that she knew they were not ready, but their chatter seemed to indicate they were. The students got quiet, and participated in reviewing their material that needed to be reviewed.

This made me realize that students will probably have trouble getting back into their learning routine when they come back from a holiday break. This would be something that I may want to try to schedule my curriculum around. Even so, it will be something that I will have to contend with. It was good to see how a teacher handles this situation effectively.
