Samantha’s pick for the week:

Simon’s pick for the week:

  • Blogging principles I use — While trying to get into the habit of writing more blog posts I found this article by Julia Evans really helpful. In it she helps you to help yourself to write better blog posts.

John’s pick for the week:

  • Yes, React is taking over front-end development. The question is why. — The most compelling part of the article is, frankly, the headline as it sort of affirms the decision to use React amidst a sea of javascript libraries and frameworks all claiming to make our lives as programmers easier. A key takeaway from the article itself: “with React, we write HTML using JavaScript. We rely on the power of JavaScript to generate HTML that depends on some data, rather than enhancing HTML to make it work with that data.

Mai’s pick for the week:

  • Visualizing Garbage Collection Algorithms — Thanks to modern tools, garbage collection is something I’ve never had to worry about. I do think it’s an important concept to know. Fortunately, Ken Fox has explained all the different types of garbage collection algorithms accompanied with gifs.
