My project started as a final capstone project for the Data Science Immersion class I took from General Assembly. The dataset I picked came from data.world and included a scrape for ship locations from 2003 to to mid-2017. (credit to Brandon Telle for collecting and publishing the dataset) I love to travel and my wife in the travel business enjoy all types of vacations. This data is interesting to me in order to model the trends that occur in this business. So far in my project, I collected and charted the data with Tableau and began exploring the dataset with 8 simple charts. Enjoy, because I have special interest in the last chart. I wanted to “slide the date” and see the cruise ship locations change over time, but must figure out how to make the data more refined to make single-date jumps instead of large “by-months” at a time.

Next will investigate how to use the Python package bokeh with a timeseries data-shader to help visualize this information. Please stay connected as the final project is posted at github in Jupyter.
