This is a very divisive issue, as the comments do show. And i think it’s because we’re in a world of 2 extremes.

On one end, you have the “Can you write AlphaGo on a whiteboard cold including proper code formatting, indentation and comments in 15 minutes”.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have “Oh, you started learning about Ruby on Rails 4 weeks ago? Do you know the difference between a database and a flat file? HIRED! You’ll learn the rest soon enough, here’s a 50k USD sign-on bonus to go with your 6 figure salary”.

Both are pretty freagin stupid.
