Founded by Claudio Rudin and Andreas Fraefel, the GBB (Grand Beatbox Battle) is arguably the most notorious and largely anticipated event in the Beatbox world. It is where Beatbox artists from all around the globe compete for notoriety and respect among the wave of Beatboxers trying to climb to the top.

To enter the competition, you have to submit a 2 minute wildcard, the wildcards will then be evaluated and judged after the deadline and the winners will be announced at the start of the next month. The event is split into five categories: Solo, Tag Team, Loopstation, Crew, and Loopstation Tag Team. There are 9 wildcards given out for solos, 6 wildcards for tag team (minimum), 6 wildcards (minimum) for Loopstation, 2 wildcards for Crew, and 2 wildcards for Loopstation Tag Team.

SOLO:

The solo category is the most popular out of all the other categories in GBB. Over 100 wildcard submissions are being submitted from around the world. The person has to record a 2 minute wildcard stating where they are from before proceeding to perform. The 10 best contestants will be qualified to beatbox on stage where they will have to do a 4 minute showcase. The top 8 showcases will then be selected and placed in a bracket where they will battle head to head until 1 competitor emerges victorious.

TAG TEAM:

The Tag Team category is starting to get more and more popular as the GBB happens every year. 2 people will be beatboxing together in unison for 2 minutes to impress the judges in hopes to qualify to the world stage. 8 competitors within the video wildcards will be picked where they then get to perform a 4 minute showcase on stage. The best 4 Tag Teams will then qualify and battle it out for a chance to win the GBB Tag Team title.

Loopstation:

Loopstation is one of the most popular categories as this involves manning an RC-505. the person uses the RC-505 (a machine that allows you to record your voice and add effects) to create a track within 3 minutes. The 8 successful qualifiers will then compete on the world stage where they will battle it out in a bracket format until 1 emerges as the GBB Loopstation Champion.

Crew:

The Crew category is a new addition to GBB 2020. A group of 2 or more, preferably 3–5 people. The group comes up with a 3 minute wildcard to impress the judges. Not much is known about how this category will play out in the world stage but we can expect it to be extraordinary.

Tag Team Loopstation:

Tag Team Loopstation is a new category for the GBB2020. 2 people use an Rc-505 Loopstation simultaneously with no added device. They have 3 minutes to come up with a wildcard that will impress the judges. Along with the Crew category, information on how this will play out on the world stage in still TBD. But, we can expect it to be a huge leap for its Solo Loopstation predecessor.

The Grand Beatbox Battle 2020: World League will be held at Warsaw, Poland on the 3rd-6th of April. Winners of the GBB 2020 will qualify for the Beatbox Battle World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
