Forever love for Twitter, new adventures at betaworks
After a four-year run at Twitter, and on the heels of our recent successes with the NFL and the launch of Twitter Amplify at Scale, I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining betaworks as Entrepreneur-in-Residence. I’ve been a longtime follower of John Borthwick and his portfolio companies and investments — from Chartbeat to Giphy to Digg to Airbnb to SocialFlow to Twitter itself, among many others. I am excited to jump in with the top-notch team at betaworks, especially fellow Berkman Center and Google alum Andrew McLaughlin.
My best wishes to all the colleagues, friends, partners, and clients I had the privilege of working with during a great ride at Twitter — and I hope to work with all of them again soon. Few professional experiences can match the thrill of building Twitter Amplify from a mad-scientist experiment (with fellow Amplify O.G.s Mike Park and Je Carr, among a now-massive team of rock stars across functions) into a global video partnerships team with hundreds of partners including major sports leagues and TV networks. Collaborating with the big product brains behind SnappyTV, in particular, as well as the total professionals of Twitter’s revenue, sales, product, legal, finance, and many other teams, has been a privilege.
Finally, I am very grateful to be able to take the leadership lessons of Adam Bain, Jack Dorsey, Dick Costolo, and many, many others with me into the future.
All of my favorite jobs — whether running Creative Commons in its first three years, building out YouTube’s early legal policies and music partnerships, and now creating Amplify at Twitter — have involved building something from scratch, then handing off to the most able hands.
I will long remain a huge fan of Twitter and Twitter’s video work and look forward to seeing it continue to break huge new ground for a long time.
I’m lucky now to have a chance to go early-stage again by joining what’s been called “The Start-Up Studio to Rule Them All,” and hope I can contribute my best.
