Again, that speaks to the point I made. He sees American society to be the least free because it does not provide individuals an easily definable place to be productive. He therefore sees it as alienating and believes its freedom thus becomes a burden. He then espouses the sense of place that comes from medieval social structures, but argues that it does not provide the individual the possibility of freedom. His ideal seems to be something akin to a medieval structure that could graduate people to the place where they can contribute via their individuality.
