As a relentless optimist, it makes me hopeful that the destruction caused by the War on Drugs (and the drugs themselves) will not spare the racial divide.

It is true that sentiment is changing.

Perhaps those whites in the grips of addiction can find humility through the grace that blacks like “Kenneth” can show. Perhaps such acts can be contagious beyond the bounds of the desperate. Hopefully, we can all see the weakness in ourselves and the strength in others.

It took help getting in, and it takes help getting out.

Such wisdom should translate to all facets of life.
