Shein App

As part of my Ironhack ux/ui bootcamp journey, i decided to do a quick redesign of SHEIN mobile Application (4 Screens) on android.

My role- Ux/ui designer

Duration- 26 hours

Tools: Figma, Pen and Paper, zoom

I know you may be thinking why choose shein App? is shein App not women clothing App?, but come to think of it, why not shein App?, my first encounter with this app was to buy a cheap and trendy cloth for my wife, the interface was good but having a lot on the screen was confusing, I will guide you through these steps that i took in this redesigning project but firstly let’s talk about shein.

About Shein App

Shein is a Chinese online fast fashion retailer, after the pandemic shein overtook Amazon as the most downloaded shopping app in united state, it was recognised for its unique, cheap and trendy clothes.

What I found out

For this project, i did a quick research on the problem users may be facing with SHEIN app interface, some of the interesting review on play store and App store related to shein interface are

I interviewed three shein app users, my objective was to gain a solid understanding on what the users feel about shein interface and identify design opportunity, some insights gotten from the interview are

Relevant Quotes:

“Going through a lot of suggestion can make you indecisive and you may end up with buying nothing.” — Ifeoluwa

“Sometimes, running out of options makes you appreciate and know the worth of what is available” — Emily

Design Goals

With the insights gotten from our research we divided our design goals into

  1. Redesigning the Shein App Interface (4 screens), making the interface more appealing to the eyes, simple to use and well organised.

2. To deepen visual creativity and improve the product usability.

Ideation

To accomplish the design goals I started by cloning the existing app interface to empathise with the Shein App Ux team and understand the interface more.

Cloning Process

Sketches

I basically choose four screens which are the home page, profile page and a catalog page and made a low-fi wireframe with the 4 screens

Low Fi Wireframe

The Low-fi wireframe was tested with three participants and i gathered the following feedback:

“I prefer the new arrangement on the profile page, it has enough space” — Ifeoluwa

“I will remove the inbox icon at the top and put it in the profile page” — Emily

“It looks cool for a skeleton of an app, let’s see when you do the graphical part with colors and real pictures” — Sarina

I gathered the feedbacks from the low fidelity testing to build our Mid-Fi and HighFi

Visuals

Visual Competitive Analysis

I made a visual comparison with three retailing company App, Zalando, boohoo, Zara for both orientation and inspiration.

Visual competitive Analysis

Brand Attribute and Moodboard

To define our brand I choose 4 brand attribute which are close to shein brand attribute, remember our aim is not to change the information architecture but to make the interface more simple and easier for the users, our brand attributes are

  1. Affordable
  2. Classy
  3. Quality
  4. Fashionable

Based on the brand attribute, I created a mood board aligned with the style and concept of shein

Mood board

We tested the mood board with three people, the words mostly used by them are fashionable, sexy, fresh, smart, natural, quality.

Design inventory style

After I created and tested the sketches, I created a Design inventory style to communicate the essence of the visual brand before moving on with the hi-fi prototype.

Style Tile

Hi-fi Prototype

From the usability testing feedback, i designed an interactive hi-fi prototype for an android screen.

Next Step

My next step on this project is redesigning and develop other features of SHEIN app to make it more easier for the users.

Thank you all for the reading, let me know if there is anything i can improve on.
