Lamar Odom Fights For His Life After Severe Drug Overdose
Former NBA star Lamar Odom was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after being found unconscious in Nevada brothel Love Ranch, where he had spent the previous four nights.
Two female staff members went to check in on Odom around 3:30 where they found him unconscious and foaming from the mouth.
“There’s blood coming out of his nose,” A female said in the 911 call reporting Odom’s condition. “White stuff coming out of his mouth. Also, he’s not breathing”.
Odom was then rushed to the nearest hospital, where professionals decided to fly him to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Unfortunately for the 6 foot 10 inched athlete, he was far too large to fit into the helicopter. An ambulance then drove Odom 60 miles to Sunrise, arriving at 6:24 PM.
Investigators determined that Odom had been using cocaine Saturday as well as herbal supplements provided at Love Ranch. It is unknown if Odom continued to use cocaine and/or any other drugs during the rest of his stay.
Owner of the brothel Dennis Hof explained that the herbal supplements Lamar had been taking were essentially a type of “herbal Viagra”. The brothel regularly sells this item to costumers.
Friends and family rushed to the stars side, including ex-wife Khloe Kardashian.
In a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloe talks about her concern for Odom, as he grieves the death of his best-friend.
“Lamar has suffered so much loss in his life,” Khloe states. “I’m really on high alert for Lamar because anything will set him to spiral, and that’s kind of the last thing I want from him.”
Odom and Kardashian married in 2009 after only a month of dating, which was featured on Kardashians reality-TV show. After four years of marriage, Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013 due to ‘inconceivable differences’.
Still, the Kardashian clan supports Odom through social media, posting their hope and support.
Along with the Kardashians, Odom’s teammates and close friends took to twitter to show their support as well.
Although medical professionals were unsure if he would even survive, Odom finally woke up Friday, October 16th from his 4-day coma.
A source close to Odom explains that Lamar woke up, saw Khloe Kardashian, said “Hey baby,” and then fell back asleep.
Odom apparently no longer needs a breathing tube and is able to make small, yet functional movements.
Even though this is great news for Odom, doctors still warn family and friends that he possibly could have severe mental and physical impairments because he likely suffered a series of strokes.
Because Odom woke from his coma in such a short amount of time, though, it looks as if he may have a relatively short road to recovery.
Lamar Odom is best recognized from his impressive NBA history, playing for teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. Odom played a very strong role in the NBA championships of 2009 and 2010.
Odom played on the United States national team in the Olympics in 2004, earning a bronze metal and later a gold metal at the FIBA World Championship in 2010. Odom was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011.
After a short run with the New York Knicks in 2014, Odom was waived from the team, causing his career to come to a temporary stop.
Odom is in rough condition but family and friends are hopeful to see a quick recovery by the all-star athlete.
