The Unicorns of Education
In Silicon Valley there is a class of start-up known as Unicorns, identified by their $1 billion valuation. Reading Arne Duncan’s call for not only recognition but funding of equally innovative schools and teachers is inspiring, and leads me to reflect on some of the inspiring examples where this is happening even beyond i3. Here are a couple — from funding to recognition — that I’d love to see more of:
VC: Obvious Ventures, Owl Ventures, Reach Capital, NSVF
All about #world positive investing for Obvious, and I’d argue the same for the others. Let’s see more investors take the plunge in education, specifically with educators.
Rock Stars of Science
It feels a bit goofy, but I love how a fashion brand like Geoffrey Beane decided to highlight and raise up the work of actual scientists. We need more just like it.
The mission of the Geoffrey Beene Foundation's Rock Stars of Science™ campaign is to celebrate and support our top…www.geoffreybeene.com
Those are just a couple. What else is out there? Who are the unicorns we should be supporting? How might we cultivate more of them?
