MobileMakers Final Project
We begin week 6 with our final project. This means no more classes and just focusing on completing a project of your choosing. This is where i’ll have the opportunity to implement everything that was learned.
Choices..
Every student in this cohort had the opportunity to pitch one or several ideas they had. Our task was to pick one of the apps pitched and we could either work in teams or individually.
This time around it seemed no one wanted to work in a team so we all picked our own project and are working very closely with the instructors.
I decided to go with an iBeacon app and I will use that as my distinction. The gist of my app is basically to display your location inside an airport and give you walking directions to where you need to go, be it a restroom, restaurant or gate.
Challenges
I face several challenges for this app. Some are simpler to solve than others.
1: I won’t get access to the airport to do my testing.
2. The cost of the iBeacons are $100 for only 3.. Imagine how many I will need for an airport.. ha.
3. Without having access to GPS or iBeacons, testing the app will be complicated.
4. I’m still trying to figure out how I will display an “indoor” map in my app.
Status:
I started this project yesterday. So far I only have Twitter login and displaying the user’s profile and obtaining the user’s current location. Luckily for me I have 2 weeks to complete this project. I should have more than enough time to at least get some data back by turning my phone into a beacon. At least that’s the goal given to me given the particular challenges. I will try to complete that and of course try to do more.
