Week 1 at The Iron Yard — Greenville
About six months ago, I had made up my mind. I wanted to go to The Iron Yard and learn how to code. Two jobs and one semester of college later, here I am. After six months of research, planning and preparation, I thought I had well set expectations, and I did, for the most part. The few things I didn’t prepare for included:
- That part of the day when you’re about 2 hours into lab and you want to pull your hair out.
- That part of the day when you’re 3 hours into lab and you not only want to pull your hair out but right after you pull your hair out you want to throw your computer off the balcony.
- That part of the day when you’re 3 hours and 10 minutes into lab and and you finally have a minor breakthrough and mend your friendship with your computer that you’ve been saying mean things to for the past 3 hours and 10 minutes.
- (The best one) That moment somewhere toward the end of the week when things finally start making sense to you and you have that boost of confidence and tell yourself, “I can do this!”
- The free coffee and comfy couches.
All joking aside, this week has had its ups and downs, form losing my keys and having a major panic attack and struggling with css for hours to only find out the problem was a simple missing letter or comma, to, meeting and collaborating with people that are in the same shoes as me and helping each other along the way.
Ive already learned and built things that would have taking me about a month to do on my own and it is only the end of week one. Im so excited to see how much I will grow as a web developer in the next eleven weeks here at The Iron Yard and all the opportunities I will have following.
Until next week, farewell.
