“Whatever kind of movie it is” matters, though. Logan obviously isn’t a typical superhero movie, and it wasn’t marketed as one. I think it’s a testament to the draw of the character that it has had such a successful start.

I’ll take your word for where Wolverine ranks among other superheroes. Personally, I don’t think the average movie-goer would put him up with those three. I’d guess they’d know him as “one of those X-Men, right?” As for the grosses of the previous stand-alone Wolverine movies…I just don’t think they were very good movies.

But it has only been one weekend! I think I read it has already made something like $250M worldwide.
