Not just another FAd

Kent State Univeristy students host an award show to celebrate creativity on campus

Kent State is known for its JMC, Journalism and Mass Communication, program but the problem with being in these programs is that hardly any of your work is showcased. That is until three Kent State advertising majors made their own award show for any student on campus that would like to show their creativity.

The FAd Awards, Franklin Advertising awards, had its first annual showcase April 27th. The awards were created by three of Franklin Advertising’s officers, the head planner being Odun Ishola.

“This was created to showcase creativity in KSU as whole. Everyone can showcase their work that they’re most proud of” Ishola stated when asked exactly what the awards were.

In order to have been in the award show/ showcase contestants had to fill out an entry form as well as provide a $10 entry fee.

This wasn’t strictly for fun. The winners of each category received a $25 amazon gift card and a plaque where as the Best In Show winner won a plaque as well as a $500 scholarship provided by Franklin Advertising. The winners, when announced, briefly spoke about their work and their piece was shown.

The process of planning all fell on Ishola’s shoulders. She had to make the categories as well as entry forms and criteria for the judges. It took in total about six weeks of planning and coordination.

It eventually all came together in a beautiful 60’s themed, similar to Mad Men, the only well known show about an advertising agency, cocktail party. The actual awards ceremony itself went smoothly as well.
