Before sharing the code assignment, I would like to share the story behind with you.

I August 2017 I was hunting jobs in Berlin. I applied to Microsoft, after making a damn account on their job portal. I was also request to upload my resume, although I was already requested to answer to a bunch of questions about my professional experience.

It took me like 2 hours to complete that profile and then I applied. And then … radio silence. Not even a generic email that I applied successfully. I connected with a recruiter from Microsoft located in Berlin, via LinkedIn. I sent here a message presenting the situation aaaaand … radio silence.

So, I said to myself, screw it, Microsoft just got out of my companies that I would like to work for. Think what you want, but two years later it proved that I was right.

In August 2019, a Microsoft recruiter from Poland contacted me pretending that I contacted her a while back for a position. You need a lot of nerve to contact someone without explaining why it did not ended with a hiring.

Well, I never spoke with that recruiter, I am sure abut that. I keep most of my emails, and I have a solid track record with all recruiters that I was in contact. This impostor was not on my list.

Anyway, she proposed me a role for Prague. (WTF?!) Just out of curiosity I said “yes” without asking anything. We had a generic — and also meaningless, phone call where she told me that I have to take a code assessment via codility.

The most painful point, was that she had the outdated resume from 2017. She tough that I didn’t change my job in the meantime. Tough I said to her that she has an outdated version of my resume, she continued the interview with no shame and no interest of asking for an updated one.

She sent me the that test, with no deadline specification. I was on a business trip so I could not complete it that week. The next day, started to get every day a reminder that I have 1 week to finish the test. I was unable, and honestly I had no interest.

I spammed whatever I could from Microsoft, and, coincidence or not, as a .NET developer I’ve been thinking lately of moving away from this tech-stack.

Anyway, the code assignment — that by the way, does not tell anything abut your programming skills, consists of three exercises. The solutions, for the most part could be easily found on the web.

Exercise #1

Exercise 1 — part 1
Exercise 1 — part 2

Exercise #2

Exercise #3

Exercise 3 — part 1
Exercise 3 — part 2

Happy … coding?!

Whatever!

Thank me later.
